1. What is full flow?
Today’s engines use full-flow filtration systems. What is full-flow?
That is, all the oil passes through the oil filter, leaving impurities before being supplied. That is to say, the engine is filtered from time to time, and every drop of oil is filtered.
But this is only a theoretical state, why? Look at the picture below:
The filter system has a pressure difference: the pressure of the inlet oil is high, and the pressure of the oil outlet is low, which is inevitable. You wear a mask, which is also a filter system, you can find the air resistance when you breathe.
The oil filter of the engine has a pressure difference when it is working, the pressure from the oil pump is high, and the pressure output to the main lubricating oil passage of the engine is slightly lower. Through a filter paper with a large filtering capacity or a new filter paper, the pressure difference is very small, so full-flow filtration can be ensured.
If the pressure difference is large, the oil is blocked at the oil inlet end, the flow rate at the oil outlet end is small, and the main oil passage pressure is also small, which is very dangerous.
In order to ensure the pressure supply of the main oil passage, a bypass valve is designed at the bottom of the oil filter. When the pressure difference is high to a certain level, the bypass valve opens, so that the oil directly enters the main oil passage again without being filtered by the filter paper. At this time, it is not full-flow filtration, but partial filtration.
If the oil is deeply oxidized and the sludge and gum cover the surface of the filter paper, it will enter the bypass valve circulation mode with no filtration at all.
So, everyone should change the oil and oil filter regularly! At the same time, choose a good oil filter, don’t try to be cheap, buy a filter with a low level of filtration.
2. Several reasons and conditions for the opening of the bypass valve
1. There are too many impurities and dirt in the filter paper. The flow can be filtered at low speed, and the bypass valve is opened for partial filtering at high speed.
2. After the passing capacity of the filter paper drops, the oil flow increases sharply, for example, the speed suddenly rises to 4000-5000 rpm, and the bypass valve opens to partially filter;
3. If the oil is not changed for a long time, the pores of the oil filter paper are covered or blocked, so that any speed bypass valve is opened, and the idling speed may also be opened.
Let’s take a look at the mechanism diagram and parts diagram of the oil filter, so that you can understand more clearly:
From the above, we can see the importance of the oil filter element, so how important is the selection of a good oil filter element to your car. Bad filter element filter paper has low filtration accuracy and can not achieve filtration effect. If the oil filter is blocked for a long time, the bypass valve will be opened, and it will be directly supplied to the engine without the filter.
