Although many car owners often hear what oil filter to change, most car owners only know that it filters oil. The appearance is an iron box with some holes at the bottom. That ’s all. Let ’s come together. Learn about the internal structure of the oil filter.
The function of the oil filter is to filter some impurities in the oil. In addition to a shell, it also has many internal structures, including the most central filter paper core, upper and lower covers, inner sealing rings, check valves, threaded negative , Outer seal ring, etc., the following is the analytical diagram of the internal structure of the oil filter;
Technical characteristics of oil filter
rubber sealed loop
The rubber sealing ring has an inner sealing ring and an outer sealing ring. The main function is to seal airtightness and ensure that oil will not leak during driving;
Check valve
The function of the check valve is to prevent the oil in the engine from flowing back to the oil pool after the engine is turned off. When the engine is started, there is no oil lubrication in the engine and the engine is worn out. It also prevents the oil filter from drying out. When the pressure can be generated, the engine oil is supplied to lubricate the engine;
Bypass / Relief Valve
The bypass valve is also called a relief valve. When the oil filter exceeds the normal service life or the accumulated impurities cause blockage, the pressure in the oil filter will increase because the oil cannot flow through the blockage. When it reaches a certain value, the bypass valve will be opened to allow the unfiltered oil to pass, ensuring that the organic oil in the engine can be lubricated.
However, at this time, the engine oil is not filtered with impurities, because the bypass valve is used to protect the engine from organic oil lubrication in an emergency. At this time, the oil filter must be replaced immediately to ensure that impurities can be filtered without causing the engine. Wear and tear
Oil filter replacement cycle and how to install
1. Start the vehicle engine to warm up for 5 to 10 minutes, the oil pollutants are more likely to evaporate from the high temperature engine;
2. Park the car on the lift for easy oil filter replacement, shut down the engine, and pull up your hand;
Open the car engine hood, find the engine oil cap, and unscrew it;
3. Prepare an oil receiving barrel, unscrew the oil drain screw, align the oil receiving barrel with the oil outlet, and drain the dirty oil into the oil receiving barrel.
4. After the drain is clean, tighten the oil drain screw;
5. Unscrew the old oil filter. Note that there may be some old oil during the screwing process. An oil receiving barrel is required underneath.
6. Coat the new filter seal ring with new engine oil, and then screw the engine oil filter by hand, screw it to 3/4 turn or one turn after the gasket comes into contact;
7. Add the right amount of engine oil;
8. Tighten the hood and start the engine to see if there will be oil leakage. Ok, you’re done;
